CFSC & CRFSC Course Guide โ Everything You Need to Know
The Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) and Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course (CRFSC) are the required safety certifications for obtaining a PAL or RPAL. Both are instructor-led, one-day courses covering safe handling, storage, transportation, and legal requirements.
What Is the CFSC Course?
The CFSC is a mandatory one-day course required to obtain a non-restricted PAL. It covers safe handling (ACTS and PROVE protocols), storage rules, transport regulations, ammunition identification, and legal responsibilities. You must pass a written exam (80% pass mark) and a practical exam (100% โ zero errors permitted). The CFSC is conducted by RCMP-certified instructors across all provinces and territories.
What Is the CRFSC and How Is It Different?
The CRFSC is the restricted-firearms equivalent of the CFSC, required to add restricted firearms (handguns, restricted rifles) to your licence. It focuses on handgun operation, restricted storage (trigger lock AND locked container), ATT requirements, and restricted-firearms specific laws. The CRFSC is typically taken on the same day or weekend as the CFSC in a combined course.
