CFSC Course Guide — What to Expect
The Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) is a one-day instructor-led course required for a non-restricted PAL. It covers ACTS and PROVE protocols, safe handling, storage, transport, ammunition, and Canadian firearms law. You must pass a written exam (80%) and a practical exam (100%).

What Topics Does the CFSC Cover?
The CFSC covers five core areas: (1) safe handling including ACTS and PROVE protocols, (2) storage requirements for non-restricted firearms, (3) transportation rules, (4) ammunition identification and handling, and (5) Canadian firearms laws including Section 85–87 of the Criminal Code.
What Happens If You Fail the CFSC?
If you fail the written exam (score below 80%) or make any errors on the practical exam, you can rewrite. Most instructors allow a rewrite on the same day or schedule a makeup exam. There is no limit on the number of attempts. Many students who fail were simply unprepared — use our practice tests to study.
Does CFSC Certification Expire?
No. Your CFSC certificate does not expire. Once you pass the CFSC, your certification is permanent. You do not need to retake the course for PAL renewal. Keep your original certificate safe — it may be required when applying for your PAL or if your licence lapses.
