CRFSC Course Guide — Restricted Firearms Safety Course
The Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course (CRFSC) is a one-day course required to add restricted firearms (handguns, restricted rifles) to your PAL. It focuses on handgun safe handling, restricted storage ("AND" rule), ATT requirements, and restricted-firearms laws. Pass marks are 80% written and 100% practical.

What Does the CRFSC Cover?
The CRFSC covers: (1) identification and classification of restricted firearms, (2) safe handling of handguns using PROVE and ACTS protocols specific to restricted firearms, (3) storage requirements (trigger lock AND locked container), (4) ATT rules and transport of restricted firearms, and (5) registration requirements.
What Is the Difference Between CFSC and CRFSC?
The CFSC covers non-restricted firearms (rifles and shotguns). The CRFSC adds restricted firearms (handguns, certain semi-automatics). The CRFSC has stricter practical requirements because handguns have different safe handling protocols. Both are needed to obtain a full RPAL.
Can You Take CFSC and CRFSC on the Same Day?
Yes. Most instructors offer combined CFSC + CRFSC courses over one or two days. This is the most efficient way to obtain an RPAL, as you complete both course requirements in a single session. Combined courses typically cost $150–$300.
