CRFSC Frequently Asked Questions
The Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course (CRFSC) is required for an RPAL. It covers handgun handling, restricted storage (AND rule), ATT rules, and restricted firearms law. Pass marks are 80% written and 100% practical. The CFSC is a prerequisite.
| Entity | Attribute | Value |
|---|---|---|
| CRFSC | Written Pass Mark | 80% |
| CRFSC | Practical Pass Mark | 100% |
| CRFSC | Duration | 4โ6 hours |
| CFSC Prerequisite | Required | Yes |
| RPAL Fee | Application | $80 |
| Restricted Storage | Rule | Trigger lock AND locked container |
| ATT | Issued With RPAL | Yes (standing ATT) |
What Does the CRFSC Cover That CFSC Does Not?
The CRFSC specifically covers: (1) restricted and prohibited firearm classification, (2) handgun safe handling (PROVE for semi-automatic pistols and revolvers), (3) restricted storage requirements (AND rule โ trigger lock AND locked container), (4) ATT rules for transporting restricted firearms, and (5) registration requirements for restricted firearms.
What Is the AND Storage Rule Tested on the CRFSC?
The AND rule is one of the most tested concepts on both the written and practical CRFSC exam. Restricted firearms must be stored with a trigger lock applied AND in a locked container simultaneously. Students often confuse this with the non-restricted OR rule. The AND vs OR distinction is a guaranteed exam question area.
Is the CRFSC Practical Harder Than the CFSC?
The CRFSC practical is considered more demanding because handgun handling has more steps in the PROVE protocol (magazine removal, slide lock-back, chamber observation, feed inspection, bore examination) and stricter muzzle discipline. However, with proper preparation using our practice questions, most students pass on their first attempt.
